Programs of Study

The Department of Animal and Dairy Science offers four graduate degrees: the Master of Science in Animal and Dairy Sciences (MS-thesis) and Doctor of Philosophy in Animal and Dairy Sciences (Ph.D.), which are research-based programs, and the Non-thesis Master of Science in Animal and Dairy Sciences (NTMS), which is a non-thesis terminal degree program. The department also offers the Doctor of Philosophy in Regenerative Biosciences.

MS and Ph.D. Programs

Students enrolled in the MS or Ph.D. programs work with a faculty member in various disciplines including: growth and developmental biology, quantitative genetics, bioinformatics, meats or muscle biology, lactation, nutrition and/or regenerative biology.

Thesis (M.S.) and dissertation (Ph.D.) research programs are focused on improving food animal productivity, profitability and sustainability or using animal models for human research applications. Specialized areas of interest include embryonic stem cell research, the Regenerative Bioscience Core Facility, tissue culture and animal cloning facilities, a meat science technology center including abattoir and laboratories, core laboratories in ruminant and non-ruminant nutrition and lactation, environmentally controlled large and small animal facilities on campus, beef and dairy cattle and swine research and teaching farms located near campus and at the University of Georgia Tifton Campus.
