Spring Break 2024 (March 1-10)

Dr. Stelzleni (UGA ADSC) and Dr. Bruno Lanfranco (INIA Uruguay/Adjunct Professor UGA AAE) had the pleasure of taking 17 CAES students (14 undergraduate/3 graduate) to the beautiful country of Uruguay for the International Agribusiness of Diversified Livestock and Grain Production StudyAbroad course. While in the country students got to explore the history and culture of Uruguay and gain a deeper understanding of the importance of agriculture in local and international economies. Students interacted with dairy farmers, pastoral-based beef and sheep ranchers, rice producers, winemakers, and internationally recognized researchers at INIA Uruguay. Our stops took us to the capital Montevideo, Colonia del Sacramento, Treinta y Tres, and Punta del Este. The Spring break Uruguay trip is a long-standing study abroad in CAES that allows students to learn about agricultural production from a different point-of-view.

We look forward to working with the next group of students during spring break 2025 (February 28 – March 9). Students can apply at www.studyaway.uga.edu.

From May 12th to the 25th Drs. Turner and Gonzalez led 12 students on an education abroad trip designed to expose them to the unique and unforgettable culture, food, production practices, and people of Japan. The trip began in the mega-city, Tokyo and traveled to other cities including Kyoto, Hiroshima, Usa City, and Fukuoka. The larger cities served as the education hubs for the culture and food portions of the program, but Usa City served as the location that had the greatest impact on our students. At Usa City, students experienced Wagyu beef cattle, wheat, and meat production while staying at the residence of local farmers. This was a trip students will never forget.
