Biography
Pedro Carvalho joined the Department of Animal and Dairy Science in February 2026 as a Beef Extension Specialist based on the Tifton Campus. He is a ruminant nutritionist with expertise in beef cattle management and nutrition. At UGA, Dr. Carvalho focuses on improving beef cattle efficiency through practical management, nutrition, and health strategies across Georgia.
Prior to joining UGA, Dr. Carvalho served as an Assistant Professor and Feedlot Specialist at AgNext in the Department of Animal Science at Colorado State University. There, he conducted applied research aimed at enhancing beef production efficiency and sustainability in beef cattle systems. Before CSU, he held a similar position at the Desert Research and Extension Center with the University of California, Davis where his research focused on management and nutrition strategies to improve production of calf-fed dairy and beef on dairy steers.
Originally from Brazil, Dr. Carvalho earned his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul. After working in the Brazilian beef industry, he completed his Master of Science in Animal Science at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign and his PhD in Animal Science at The Pennsylvania State University, with emphasis in ruminant nutrition and management.
